  • Overcoming Innumeracy: How Do We Talk About Mathematics? - Jennifer Ferguson, Digital Learning Liaison
    • What is it about the way we talk about mathematics that promotes the acceptance of "I can't do that"? What might we do to shift the conversation? How might we focus on the way we talk to students, parents, our colleagues, our leaders to build success in mathematics and confidence in numeracy? Join Jennifer for a session where ideas and questions will be presented that will encourage reflection. Resources will be shared to continue to grow as a mathematics educator long after this session.
  • Improving the Look and Feel of Your Moodle Site - Colin Byers, Learning Associate
    • Tired of your Moodle courses looking like a never ending scroll of boring information? Not sure what activities or resources to use in Moodle? Join this session to see how you can make changes to Moodle to help you and your students have a better and more engaging learning experience. Visual design is an important consideration when building online courses. Being able to set up courses that are easy to navigate and intuitive for students to use will save you time and frustration.

Endless Skies Teachers' Convention - February 17-18, 2022
  • Collaborative Response: Every Child Deserves a Team - Kurtis Hewson, Lead Learner
    • Feeling overwhelmed with the expectations being placed on teachers, leaders and educational systems to respond to the diverse needs of our learners? Ensuring success for all students is a moral imperative for all schools, but takes a highly coordinated framework of structures and processes within a school to maximize the collective capacity of the team. Come learn about Collaborative Response, an organizational mindset that involves some fundamental shifts for schools and districts, such as layering collaborative team structures, transforming how we talk about student needs, focusing on students close to meeting expectations through thoughtful organization of data and evidence and ensuring tiering of supports rather than students. Simple shifts that emerge through a focus on Collaborative Response and the good news is that some likely already exist in your building! Numerous school and district examples, as well as access to a large number of resources, will be provided for school leaders wishing to join hundreds of schools across Alberta and beyond using Collaborative Response to ensure high levels of success for students and staff!
  • “But What Are We Going To Do?”: Ensuring Effective Collaborative Team Meetings - Kurtis Hewson, Lead Learner
    • Collaborative team meetings, focusing on the emerging needs of students, are at the heart of a school’s Collaborative Response. But how do we ensure that these team meetings are purposeful, efficient and truly moving towards collective action for students? In this session, Kurtis will break down best practices to consider when engaging in collaborative team meetings, as well as share multiple school samples and artifacts. This session is intended for schools already refining the tenets of Collaborative Response or interested in learning more about the school-wide framework.
  • Leading for Equity in an Inclusive School - Lana Nogue, Learning Associate
    • Four key elements that are pivotal to leveraging equity for all will be discussed in this thought-provoking session. School leaders will be invited to reflect on their existing school structures and investigate innovative ways to further promote an inclusive culture. We will begin by discussing the importance of establishing an inclusive culture and specific strategies that include students, staff, families and the community. The intentional layering of teams to support all students will be explored, along with the creation of a schedule that supports success for all. The session will conclude with instructional leadership strategies to support staff in an inclusive school.
