Collaborative Structures and Processes
The key to a comprehensive Collaborative Response in schools is understanding that layers of collaboration need to be established in order to best support each and every learner, as well as the staff working diligently for their success.
Collaborative planning provides teachers with the opportunity to create the resources, materials, lessons, and strategies to support teaching and learning across classrooms. However, it is critical for leaders to ensure that there is structure and focus for this time…without feeling the need to micromanage!
In this workshop, Kurtis will share how leaders can create aligned focus for collaborative planning that ensures alignment and focus, while honouring the professionalism of teacher teams.
The key to deepening a Collaborative Response mindset in educational organizations is understanding the intentionality and alignment inherent in the framework. This is particularly true for the collaborative team meeting, a critical collaborative structure designed to respond to the needs of students…by taking the attention off the student!
The introduction and establishment of the collaborative team meeting is a vital first step in implementing Collaborative Response but takes some careful planning and consideration by leaders.
In this workshop, Kurtis Hewson explores four mistakes we see leaders make when planning for their first collaborative team meetings, whether the critical structure is new to the school or being reintroduced for another year.
The key to a comprehensive Collaborative Response in schools is understanding that layers of teams need to be established in order to best support each and every learner, as well as the staff working diligently for their success.
In order to coordinate and optimize support beyond the classroom, the School Support Team is critical. However, how that team is organized matters. In this on-demand workshop, Lorna will reveal 5 considerations for every school trying to take their school support teams to the next level.

Some students require intensive individualized support and this is when the Case Consult Team goes to work. When we meet to discuss the needs of one student, identifying effective processes and structures for this team is essential. In this workshop, Lorna will reveal 6 considerations for managing and operationalizing case consult teams with particular attention to the involvement of parents and external partners.
Data and Evidence
Mark Twain once said, “Data is like garbage. You’d better know what you’re going to do with it before you collect it!!”
Data informs! When schools have a targeted plan for the collection and utilization of data and evidence related to student success, conversations become more focused and staff can see the impact their collective practices are having for students!
In this on-demand workshop, Kurtis will share ten considerations, along with templates and samples for school leaders to assist when establishing a school-wide data and evidence plan, focused on the key measures being used to inform priority areas.
Continuum of Supports
A continuum of supports is a robust resource to inform collaborative conversations and articulate supports to be considered when responding to the needs of students. Although the development of a continuum starts with the simple question “What do we do when a student struggles with reading/writing/numeracy/wellness?”, its construction is never a one-time activity. As a school (or district), a continuum of support is a living document that is constantly evolving and consistently being used by staff, both in collaborative conversations and individual programming.
In this on-demand workshop, Lorna will share 10 considerations; five strategies for refining your continuums of supports and five ideas for utilizing your continuums.
After your continuum of supports has been established, the continual refinement is necessary to ensure this document is living and having direct impact on your Collaborative Response. The narrowing of Tier 1 practises provides the opportunity for every teacher in every classroom to establish common practices for all students as well as create a common understanding of those practices.
In this on-demand workshop, Lorna will share 5 considerations for refining Tier 1 supports to establish your big rocks that form common practises across the school.
