Medicine Hat Catholic Schools Deepen Collaborative Response to Support All Learners

Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education is continuing its system-wide commitment to Collaborative Response, a framework designed to strengthen inclusive practices, enhance collaboration, and ensure that every student has the supports they need to succeed.

In partnership with Jigsaw Learning, school and divisional leaders will engage in targeted professional learning opportunities, including leadership sessions and a mid-year check-in, to refine their Collaborative Response structures. These sessions will focus on building responsive school cultures, reviewing current practices, and identifying next steps for deepening implementation.

To ensure new staff are fully supported, the division will provide access to onboarding resources, including online courses and on-demand workshops, helping educators quickly build confidence in applying the framework.

A central component of this year’s work is the Comprehensive School Collaborative Response Formative Feedback process. All schools in the division will take part, receiving individualized feedback on collaborative team meetings, the integration of data and evidence, and the design of continuums of support. This feedback will guide both immediate improvements and long-term sustainability across the system.

All schools will also maintain access to the Collaborative Response Membership, giving leaders and educators a wide range of resources, tools, and professional learning supports to continue strengthening their practices.

“Medicine Hat Catholic has demonstrated an ongoing dedication to Collaborative Response,” says Kurtis Hewson, co-creator of the framework. “This next phase builds on a strong foundation and positions the division to continue advancing inclusive, collaborative practices that make a real difference for students and staff.”

This partnership reflects Medicine Hat Catholic’s commitment to fostering vibrant, student-centered learning environments and Jigsaw Learning’s mission to help schools and divisions implement sustainable systems of support that impact all learners.
